Exclusive Online Premiere: Gugu Mbatha-Raw Stars in Beautifully-Shot Short, 'After the Storm'

AFTER THE STORMAFTER THE STORM

An actress fave of many Shadow and Act readers, Gugu Mbatha-Raw stars in "After the Storm," a short film written, directed and produced by Jessica Oyelowo, an accomplished actress making her directorial debut, and wife of an actor you know very well, David Oyelowo, who executive produced the film.

The story: inspired by current social events, "After the Storm" explores the lives of a family - a mother, father and their son - caught in the aftermath of an incident that has changed their dynamic forever, as they attempt to come to terms with the predicament they're in, rebuilding what has been broken.

Joining Mbatha-Raw in front of the camera are Chiké Okonkwo (currently featured in "Being Mary Jane") playing the father, and newcomer Caleb Oyelowo as the son.

"I became fascinated with activists and how their families’ lives are affected while my husband David prepared for the movie 'Selma'," says director Oyelowo. "It is important to me to give a voice to those usually forgotten. 'After the Storm' was conceived for those left behind."

Jenna Pfefferle also is a producer on the film.

After some film festival play (it premiered at the Urbanworld Film Festival last fall), Shadow and Act is pleased to premiere "After the Storm" online. Take a deeply emotional journey with this grieving family in the beautifully shot, moody, touching "After the Storm."

Jessica Oyelowo is represented by Carol Bodie at Art2Perform, Elizabeth Fergusson at Hamilton Hodell, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Belin & Dunham. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is represented by CAA, Curtis Brown Group, and Authentic Talent and Literary Management. Chiké Okonkwo is represented by CAA, Management 360, and Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.

And now, "After the Storm."
