The Dramatic Need Children's Monologues - 5th Anniversary Performance 2015

Published on 11 May 2016
This is a short film about the one-off performance of The Children's Monologues in aid of Arts & development charity DRAMATIC NEED (dramaticneed.org). Staged in October 2015 at London's renowned Royal Court Theatre and directed by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, the UK Cast included Benedict Cumberbatch, Nicole Kidman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kit Harington, James McAvoy, Josh Hartnett, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Rose Leslie, David Thewlis, David Gyasi, Daniel Kaluuya, Zawe Ashton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Cressida Bonas, Nazanin Boniadi, Alfie Allen and Wunmi Mosaku. Music was contributed by FKA Twigs, Little Simz, James Rhodes, Krept & Konan and Tony Woollard.
The monologues were based on original testimony by children living in rural South Africa and working with the charity. The children were asked to describe a day they will never forget. The resulting monologues included heart-wrenching accounts of loss, struggle, rape, violence as well as joy, pride, love for a mother or father, passion for music, and dreaming of driving a boat...?
These testimony were given to some of the world's top playwrights (Including Sir David Hare, Neil LaBute, Laura Wade and Jack Thorne) to dramatise into cohesive monologues and these were then perfromed on stage in London by the cast listed above and by the children themselves in their local township hall - on the same night.
If you like this video - please share it, tweet it, youtube it, whichever... just please include the link back to the charity's website when you do.

NOTE:
We know that some of you were hoping for a complete film of the performance. For many reasons, some technical, some involving permissions, all of them complicated, we are unable to cut this together just yet. However, we ARE working on making it happen but are not in a position to promise it will happen just now. We're really sorry if this is a disappointment to some of you. However, we do hope this video will give you an extended glimpse into what it was like to be there on the day and during the performance and we hope you will help us spread it far and wide - as a testament to these children's bravery and these artists'/actors' generosity if nothing else.
We would like to particularly thank the team from CNN Inside Africa who were kind enough to share their footage with us.
Please do take a moment to look at the credits at the end of the film - all of the people listed there gave their time, blood, sweat and tears for free, simply to make this event happen and they all deserve the time across our eyeballs! ~
Thank you so much for watching!
