Gugu was born in Oxford, England. After Graduating from RADA in 2004 she appeared in TV series Bad Girls, Bonekickers and Doctor Who. In 2013 She starred in Amma Asante's film Belle, playing the eponymous historical character, Dido.Followed by starring in Gina Prince-Bythewood's film Beyond The Lights

Gugu Mbatha-Raw was all smiles while taking the E!Q in 42, the Beyond the Lights star becoming the latest entertainer to crack up when asked one particular question.
Then again, maybe the British actress is tired—she's got so much on her plate after all!
Just for starters, her latest movie, the Civil War epic Free State of Jones, opened in theaters last week; she shot an improvised episode of the Netflix series Easy; and she recently wrapped Disney's hotly anticipated, live-and-animated Beauty and the Beast, in which she plays enchanted feather duster Plumette.
