Inspired by a true story, the film follows Matthew as Newton Night, a former Confederated soldier and poor farmer who ultimately gathers together a band of women, slaves and the like against his previous army.
During the trailer's beginning, Matthew is seen speaking to a group of his own, stressing that are losing their lives while others are continuing to live comfortably and rich.
A woman named Mary (Kerry Cahill) stressed to Matthew that tax collectors have taken everything they have, leaving the empty for the upcoming winter.
