AFM: Netflix swoops on 'Irreplaceable You' with Gugu Mbatha Raw, Michiel Huisman (exclusive) - Screendaily
In a multi-million dollar deal, Netflix has swooped on world rights to romantic-drama Irreplaceable You, the feature directorial debut of former Veep producer and director Stephanie Laing.
Belle star Gugu Mbatha Raw and Game Of Thrones actor Michiel Huisman play best friends and romantic soulmates whose lives come crashing down when one is given a terminal cancer diagnosis.
The stellar supporting cast includes Christopher Walken, Kate McKinnon, Jacki Weaver, Steve Coogan, Tim Simons and Claire Holt.
Walken and the previously unannounced McKinnon, star of Ghostbusters and Saturday Night Live, will play characters in a cancer support group which is led by Steve Coogan’s character.

Bess Wohl wrote the script. Jonathan Tropper, Farah Abushwesha, Matt Kaplan, Brian Robbins and Laing are producing. The Exchange was previously on board for sales.
The potential Sundance debut will be branded as a Netflix Original and will debut on the service next year as part of the streaming giant’s monster 2018, which is due to include 80 ‘originals’.
Netflix snapped up the film earlier this year before seeing footage of the project.
Mbatha Raw recently played in Miss Sloane and Beauty And The Beast and will next star in Ava DuVernay’s Disney fantasy A Wrinkle In Time and Bad Robot’s Cloverfield Movie. She also starred in the San Junipero episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror.
Huisman, who plays Daario Naharis in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, recently starred opposite Lily James in Mike Newell’s upcoming romance-drama The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Lesley Barber has been tapped to score the upcoming romantic drama Irreplaceable You. The film marks the feature directorial debut of producer Stephanie Laing (Veep, Vice Principals) and stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman, Christopher Walken, Steve Coogan, Jacki Weaver, Timothy Simons, Claire Holt, Alanna Masterson, Merritt Weaver, Erin Richards and Brian Tyree Henry. The movie focuses on Abbie and Sam, soulmates since the age of 8, who were destined to be together forever until death got in the way. Bess Wohl wrote the screenplay. Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, This Is Where I Leave You) and Farah Abushwesha are producing the project. Irreplaceable You is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, ‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Michiel Huisman to Star in ‘Irreplaceable You’ (EXCLUSIVE)

“Veep” helmer Stephanie Laing will direct from a script by Bess Wohl.
The film follows Abbie and Sam, soul mates who were destined to be together until death got in the way.
Jonathan Tropper and Farah Abushwesha are producing the movie, with The Exchange handling international sales. Production is set to start sometime next month.

Mbatha-Raw has a busy year ahead of her, starting with Disney’s highly anticipated, live-action “Beauty and the Beast” reboot, which opens on March 17. She will then appear in the untitled “Cloverfield” sequel “God Particle” — opposite David Oyelowo — and Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time” adaptation. Mbatha-Raw was most recently seen in the gun-control film “Miss Sloane” with Jessica Chastain.
Huisman cut his teeth on the TV circuit, appearing in shows such as David Simon’s “Treme” and “Nashville,” before landing the role of Daario Naharis, the hired gun and love interest of Emilia Clarke’s character on “Game of Thrones.” He was most recently seen in “The Age of Adaline” and “The Invitation.”
Mbatha-Raw is repped by CAA, Authentic, and Curtis Brown in the U.K. Huisman is repped by UTA, Authentic and Conway van Gelder Grant.
