Essentially the new date provides a film with a great patriotic theme a runway into the Fourth of July holiday. Free State of Jones also stars Keri Russell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mahershala Ali. The new date also will serve as counterprogramming on a weekend that has 20th Century Fox’s tentpole Independence Day: Resurgence and Sony’s Blake Lively drama thriller The Shallows.
